Astro Shaw was established in 1996 and under the Astro Shaw and Tayangan Unggul brand, Astro Shaw’s main business is producing movies for the local and regional market. In addition, Astro Shaw also acquires and distributes movies for theatrical and non-theatrical release in Malaysia and the region.
After 18 years of filmmaking experience, Astro Shaw has produced more than 75 titles across various genres in the Malay, Chinese and Indian languages. Astro Shaw is one of the biggest film producers in Malaysia and renowned as a company that is both innovative and uncompromising on the quality of its films. This is evidenced by more than 120 awards from local and foreign film festivals, including 4 Best Film Awards through KL menJERIT, Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang and Papadom at the Malaysian Film Festival and Anugerah Skrin. Astro Shaw’s recent films, The Journey and Maindhan, the highest grossing Malaysian movie and Malaysian Tamil movie of all time respectively, have strengthened the company’s foothold in the region and brought us international recognition.
